Tips For Good Tooth Care
There are a lot of things that you can do on your own to ensure that your teeth remain as healthy as possible, and chances are you were initially instructed at a very young age about these practices by your parents. However, there is also the very real possibility that you did not really develop these habits due to a variety of factors, and it could have resulted in some tooth decay. It can be difficult to remember to always brush your teeth after every meal and use mouth wash frequently, but once a good habit is developed it is quite likely that it will remain with you for the rest of your life.
While it is certainly true that you should do all that you can to take good care of your teeth on your own, this does not mean under any circumstances that you should avoid seeing the dentist. Even if your teeth are currently in perfectly good condition, without any signs of tooth decay or periodontal diseases, you will want to visit your dentist at least once every 6 months. Some experts in tooth health will recommend that you go to the dentist even more often than that. Just make sure that you do go for a routine check up every once in a while and not just when you feel that uncomfortable toothache indicating that you may have a few cavities that need to be filled in. Doing this will help to ensure that your teeth remain healthy for the rest of your life.
Of course, you will also want to do what you can to find the right dentist for your situation, and this can take a bit of time. While it is certainly true that most dentist will be able to provide you with good service, there are a few things that separate the good dentist from the great dentists. You can find a lot of useful information about dentists and the level of quality they are capable of providing online. Basically if the dental clinic has been around for a long time and it has gathered up a lot of satisfied patients, then it is probably a safe bet for you to consider going there for any dental work you might need to have done as well.
In any case, proper tooth care habits in addition to regular visits to the dentist are what you will need to be doing if you want to keep those teeth of yours healthy. While a lot of the things you can do to maintain teeth can be performed from home, this does not mean you shouldn’t visit the dentist as well. Just spend some time looking online to see if there are any good dental clinics located in your area and then do not hesitate to call in and set up an appointment. While it is natural to be a bit nervous when heading to the dentist, you will find that modern dental procedures are a lot less painful than they were in the past.
Candy, Sweet Childhood and Tooth Health
For every child, a look back on their sweet childhood almost always involves days playing outside, eating candy and living the worry free life! Unfortunately for both children and parents alike, tooth health can be a major issue when your child has a love for candy! Choosing the right types of candy for your children to consume and monitoring their intake and tooth care can be beneficial in helping your children maintain a sweet childhood filled with both candy and exceptional tooth health!
Even though it can be difficult to monitor what types of candy your children eat when they are away from home, it is easy to do so when they are around the house. Never allow sugary candy except on special occasions! When your children have that hankering for candy or you are in the mood to reward good behavior with a sweet treat, stick to a sugar free brand. Not only is this good for your children’s teeth, but it is also effective in maintaining a balance in their blood sugar levels. Many manufacturers have sugar free versions of many popular candies that are just as tasty and satisfying as the real thing!
When you do allow your kids to munch on candy, in order to maintain great tooth health you should enforce moderation control of consumption. One or two pieces will quench the urge for sweets. Eating candy in excess will only make your kids lethargic and hyped up on sugar only to crash soon after. After Halloween, allow your kids to pick one or two pieces of candy each day. This will keep consumption down and let the fun of Halloween last for months! After children are done snacking on candy, always remind them to brush their teeth to get rid of sugar on their teeth. In addition, always enforce brushing teeth in the morning and at night. Kids should never go to bed without brushing, as sugar left in the mouth at night will eat away at teeth and cause painful and expensive cavities!
Remind your kids that candy is not the only culprit of cavities and poor tooth health! Drinking lots of sugary sodas and even lots of sugar-rich fruits can do a number on your children’s sensitive teeth! Choose diet sodas for your kids- they taste just the same and will have similar benefits that sugar free candy boasts! Of course, enforcing good dental hygiene each day will ensure your that your children maintain their bright smiles throughout childhood.

Bad and Good Soft Drinks For Your Tooth Health
Soft drinks, especially light-colored drinks, and canned iced tea appear to “aggressively” harm teeth!
“Drinking any type of soft drink poses risk to the health of your teeth,” says AGD spokesperson Kenton Ross, DMD, FAGD. Dr. Ross recommends that patients consume fewer soft drinks by limiting their intake to meals. He also advises patients to drink with a straw, which will reduce soda’s contact with teeth.
Soft drinks like Sprite, Mountain Dew, and Arizona Iced Tea were especially harmful to tooth enamel, reports researchers from the University of Maryland Baltimore Dental School. Tap water, root beer, brewed black tea, and black coffee all showed minimal enamel damage. If you’re more of a soft drink kind of person, it appears that root beer might be the safest when it comes to keeping your teeth strong and healthy.
- Non-cola soft drinks caused two to five times the damage as darker drinks, such as Coke, Pepsi, and Dr. Pepper.
- Canned iced tea caused 30 times the enamel damage as brewed tea or coffee.
- Non-cola drinks cause up to 180 times more tooth enamel damage than did water.
- Root beer was the safest soft drink tested.
The best defense against tooth decay is drinking fewer soft drinks. Also, allowing more time between soft drinks, rinsing your mouth with water after drinking, or brushing your teeth will also help.
